Branding and signage system for Bath’s landmark spa that met the needs of stakeholders as well as the visiting public. Open since 2006, it attracts over 260,000 people every year and contributes £15m to the local economy.

Developing the branding for a new landmark tourist destination brings some special challenges. Before the public sees these projects, they must reassure various stakeholders, including the developers and the local Council. We challenged early name ideas and encouraged the decision-makers to rethink before moving ahead. The identity and signage system had to respect the heritage and contemporary developments. We went on to explain our designs in a theatre of over 50 people to ensure our proposals were clear and robust. Simple and timeless, the identity has now supported the spa since 2006 without needing a major update.
